When coming here, not many people noticed that the train to Da Lat was a unique and rare serrated railway; because in the world there are only two countries with serrated rail tracks, Vietnam and Sweden.

This type of train system has an additional serrated center track, which aligns with the wheels of the tractor’s head with specially made teeth that are not present on conventional trains; used to pull trains uphill and to keep them from slipping quickly down the slope.

In 1972, due to the influence of war, the railway was stopped working, since then Da Lat serrated railway was removed in the regret of many people.

After 1975, the railway from Dalat – Phan Rang was restored briefly before being completely demolished in the mid-1980s.

After that, the Swiss railway industry immediately offered to buy all the locomotives that run the remaining serrated railway in Vietnam; Their proposal was approved and a plan to “repatriate” the locomotive was launched in 1990.

Now people know Da Lat with one of the most beautiful railway stations in Southeast Asia, featuring an Arab-Deco building architecture – an architectural style that is very popular in Europe and the world in the 20th century.
